farmday_smlMinister Ludwig has expressed his support for proactive farmers who have signed up to showcase their property and share their knowledge this FarmDay, encouraging farmers all over the country to register for this great event.

Senator Joe Ludwig, Federal Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry has added his support to the initiative, joining FarmDay founder Deb Bain today at the property of Terrie and Kieran Flood near Bendigo to encourage farmers to get involved.

"Australian farmers are among the best in the world - they're hard working, innovative, and highly skilled," Minister Ludwig said.

"Our farmers produce food and fibre for Australians as well as many others across the globe, and their contribution to our way of life deserves real recognition.

"FarmDay presents a valuable opportunity for Australian farmers to put their abilities on show for those who wouldn't otherwise have the chance to see and learn first-hand about where their food comes from.

"I encourage Aussies everywhere - farmer or not - to take part in FarmDay and help close the gap between city and country."

Ms Bain says FarmDay, now in its seventh year is a tried and proven method of improving the understanding of the work of our Australian Farmers

"We know there is a lot of misinformation and misperception around farmers and agriculture. As farmers we need to address this and help people to discover for themselves the great work we do, and the value we add to their lives every day by providing high quality food and fibre," Ms Bain said.

"Sometimes words aren't enough. Sometimes it's a matter of people seeing first hand for themselves, so that they can make their own conclusions."

This year's FarmDay falls over the weekend of 26&27 May and farmers from all around the country are being urged to sign-up and share one of these days with a family from the city.

Kieran Flood, a lamb and wool producer from Shelbourne in Victoria, who will participate in for FarmDay for the fourth time says it's a great way to put words into action.

"Australian farmers have got so many positive stories to tell and I think FarmDay is a great step towards promoting the cutting edge technology we use, the sustainability plans we have in place and the innovation we use in our everyday practices," Mr Flood said.

"Quite aside from that, it's always a lot of fun. Our kids are already counting the days to showing some new friends around the farm."
